Supporters of the Scottish national football team, known widely as the Tartan Army, made a charitable donation to school children in Massachusetts after their visit to the Boston area.

The Tartan Army donated $15,000 to the Massachusetts Child, an organization operated by the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) to help students in financial need.

The funds will bolster the work being done by MTA and help members better serve students who are experiencing economic hardship, the organization said.

“Some of the most enduring images and memories from the World Cup will be the Scotland fans travelling to Gillette Stadium on fleets of school buses, and it seems appropriate that it’s local school kids who should benefit from the help we received,” Mike Teevan, who organized transportation for the Scotland fans staying in the Boston area for World Cup games in Foxborough said in a statement issued through the organization.

During their visit to the Northeast, social media was filled with videos and photos of Scottish football fans packing local bars in Boston, marching through the streets to the sound of bagpipe and attending baseball games at Fenway Park.

Scotland was eliminated from the World Cup after a shutout loss to Brazil in the group stage of tournament.
