President Trump on Wednesday morning will deliver remarks at the NATO summit after a series of flashpoints with U.S. allies over the conflict with Iran, defense spending and trade.
Trump in recent days has defended the prospect of selling F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, brushing off concerns tied to Ankara’s purchase of a Russian missile defense system. Early Wednesday, he also signaled an interim ceasefire deal with Iran is “over,” after tit-for-tat strikes in the Strait of Hormuz.
The president took another swipe at Spain over its refusal to meet the alliance’s defense spending target in his comments alongside NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
His speech is scheduled to begin around 9:15 a.m. EDT.
