Former first lady Jill Biden accused the media of applying a “double standard” in its coverage of her husband, former President Biden, when compared to President Trump.

Biden, while promoting her memoir last month, was asked during a Q&A session about media coverage during her husband’s presidency. She said the former president would have been “excoriated” had he been responsible for much of what is happening under the current administration.

“You know, if Joe would have done any one of the things that are occurring now, I mean he would have been excoriated,” she told “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who moderated the discussion.

“But, you know, it’s just there, it’s like there’s a double standard. And that I don’t think is fair or was fair,” Biden added.

The former first lady also suggested the Biden administration could have done more to build stronger relationships with reporters at the time, saying she regretted not engaging with the press as much as they could have.

“Maybe we could have done more to reach out to the press to be more open so that they understood us as real people and not sort of these figureheads,” Biden said. “That’s one thing I do regret, that maybe we could have formed closer relationships.”

While the interview occurred at a 92NY event on June 2 to promote her book, “View from the East Wing,” video of the exchange has drawn renewed attention online.

An uncomfortable moment occurred at the event when the former president crashed the ending of his wife’s book debut to promote his own upcoming book, as shown in a video posted to social media.

Joe Biden got up from his seat in the audience and wandered up to the edge of the stage unexpectedly, attempting to ask his wife a question without a microphone.

He was then handed a microphone, where he pointed to the crowd and said: “My book, which comes out in September, read it.”

The former first lady then jokingly said, “Do I have to remind him that this is my event?”

Jill Biden’s memoir, which was released in June, recounts her four years as first lady in the White House. It also reflects on the closing chapter of her husband’s presidency and the 2024 presidential election.
