The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was shot Sunday at their home in the Northern Virginia suburb of Ashburn, police said.
The shooting, which was first reported by ESPN, occurred on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive, where police said they were called just after 7:30 p.m. ESPN reported that Mia Bieniemy, 57, is hospitalized in stable condition after the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found her with multiple gunshot wounds at the house.
Authorities arrested Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, charging him with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling.
Eric Bieniemy, 56, is with the Chiefs in St. Joseph, Mo., for training camp as the team prepares for the 2026 season.
A former All-American running back at the University of Colorado, Eric Bieniemy has served as a coach and coordinator in the NFL for more than two decades, including a stint with the Washington Commanders in 2023.
The Chiefs in a statement said they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family.”
“Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time,” the club said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Kansas City head coach Andy Reid was scheduled to speak with the media on Monday.
