Analyst Nate Silver said Sunday that Americans may be “moving on” from President Trump amid rocky political territory for the president and his party.

“It’s kind of striking how, apart from Iran, most of the Trump-related stories this summer have been boring and dumb (reflection pool, White House Correspondents’ Dinner) or kind of funny (FIFA), maybe we’re moving on from him being the central figure in American politics,” Silver said in a post Sunday morning on the social platform X.

As the 2026 midterms near, Trump and the GOP are facing rough political terrain that includes Americans’ distaste for the war in Iran, concerns about the economy, recent Democratic electoral wins and sagging approval numbers for the president.

The Iran war, which is nearing the five-month mark, has driven up oil and gas prices. Per AAA, the average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. Monday morning was about $4.11, up from about $3.15 last year.

According to a polling average from Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ), Trump’s approval rating was sitting at 41.8 percent as of Monday morning, with 56.1 percent disapproving.

According to a recent forecast from DDHQ, Democrats are favored to take back the House but are slightly behind in the battle for the Senate with only a few months until November

Trump is visiting Michigan on Monday as part of an effort to put a spotlight on manufacturing and auto industry jobs before the midterms. The president is expected to focus on the economy in his speech at the General Motors Milford Proving Ground facility in Milford, Mich.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
