Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Republican leaders will speak with reporters Tuesday as lawmakers are embroiled in a spending battle.
Johnson on Monday unveiled plans to merge the SAVE America Act, a bill backed by President Trump that would require proof of citizenship for voter registration, with the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) after hard-line conservatives ground the House to a halt over the election reform bill.
The House Rules Committee advanced the NDAA on Monday with the voter ID bill attached, but whether that will be enough to appease the standouts is not yet clear. A Supreme Court ruling on mail-in ballots also revived Trump’s push for the legislation to pass.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
