'Gremlins' Courtesy Logo text Audiences will have to wait a while longer for the next Gremlins movie, with Warner Bros. moving the release date of its untitled third installment in the franchise back nearly 11 months.
The film will now open Oct. 6, 2028, back from its previous date of Nov. 19, 2027. Chris Columbus, who wrote the 1984 original Gremlins, is directing. Hannah Marks is writing the script, from an early draft by Columbus and Final Destination Bloodlines duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein.
Amblin Entertainment’s Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario are producing with Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe via 26th Street Pictures. Steven Spielberg executive produces with Maiden Voyage’s Eleanor Columbus.

The original, Joe Dante-directed feature centered on adorable and dangerous creatures and spawned the divisive 1990 sequel, also directed by Dante. Warners and Amblin also made the animated series Secrets of the Mogwai that has aired two seasons on HBO Max since 2023.
In addition to its Gremlins move, Warners has also shifted the date for DC Studios‘ and Warner Bros. Animation’s Dynamic Duo, an animated feature that will focus on two young men who have held the mantle of Robin — Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.
It will now open Sept. 22, 2028, back from June 30, 2028.
It hails from puppeteering and animation studio Swaybox, and will be a mix of animation, puppetry and CGI. Matt Aldrich is penning the script, with DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran producing with The Batman director Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. The new date places it seven months after The Batman: Part II, which opens in February 2028.
