Titan Books “The Fifth Element,” Luc Besson‘s wildly colourful space opera that for many sits firmly among the cult classics of modern cinema, will have its 30th anniversary next year.
Set in the year 2263 and starring Mel Gibson, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman and Chris Tucker in an insane plot about a former special forces major called Korben Dallas who teams with Leeloo, a strange redheaded woman, to defeat a great evil that appears every 5000 years, the film proved to be a major hit. After opening the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, it earned more than $260 million off a $90 budget (at the time the most expensive production in European history).
