Political commentator Bill O’Reilly on Wednesday said President Trump should “take the next month off” as the 80-year-old chief executive faces widening foreign and domestic dilemmas.
O’Reilly, 76, wrapped up the latest episode of his podcast, “No Spin News,” with a reflection on the roughly 40 years that he has known the president. He said he has noticed Trump “hunching over a little bit and that’s normal,” before prescribing his recommendation to the president.
“So my advice to Donald Trump is to take the next month off if you can get into an environment where you like golf and relax a little bit,” O’Reilly said. “You got to deal with Iran, I understand that. Everybody understands it. But you can do that on the phone and you can do that with your people coming.”
The former Fox News host added that Trump needs “a breather.”
“I need a breather and I’m going to build it into August. But he needs a breather much more than I do,” O’Reilly said, adding that he wishes the best for Trump and all of his predecessors.
The remarks come as Trump sees conflict in the Middle East widening with the Houthis striking two Saudi Arabian oil tankers in the Red Sea, an alternate passage for oil exports after Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz in response to the resumption of hostilities between the Islamic regime and the U.S.
These closures have impacted the path of transit for oil exports, causing energy prices to soar with the U.S. national gas average reaching $4.09 on Thursday, according to AAA.
Trump’s health has also been in the spotlight since before his return to the White House last year. Before turning 80 last month, bruising on his hands and swelling of his ankles raised questions about his physical fitness. Questions were also raised by critics following several instances of the president closing his eyes during events in the Oval Office.
White House physician Sean Barbabella said in July 2024 that the president was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, noting that the bruising was “consistent with minor soft tissue damage from frequent handshaking.”
Trump himself also criticized and mocked former President Biden’s health, fixating on his use of an autopen to raise questions about Biden’s cognitive abilities while in office. Biden, at the time, was the oldest man inaugurated at 78 years and 61 days old before Trump returned to the White House at 78 and 220 days old.
