Following mounting rumors that Madonna would perform at this year’s Coachella, the pop icon returned to the desert during Weekend Two of Sabrina Carpenter‘s headlining performance on Friday night.

Madonna appeared in the middle of the stage during Carpenter’s performance of “Juno” — the single where she would traditionally “arrest” a different celebrity on her Short ‘n Sweet tour. Amid a frenzy of lights and backup dancers, the pair sashayed through a duet of the 1990 hit classic “Vogue,” before delivering a new song seemingly from Madonna’s upcoming Confessions II.

Madonna then took the mic to slow things down and addressed the thousands of fans in the crowd and those live-streaming from home. “Sabrina, thank you so much for inviting me on your show,” Madonna said. “No thanks needed, Madonna. You can have whatever you want,” a clearly thrilled Carpenter replied.

“I have a few things I wanna get off my chest, 20 years ago today, I performed at Coachella. I was in the dance tent, and it was the first time I performed, Confessions on the Dance Floor Part One in America,” Madonna continued. “That was such a thrill for me, so you can imagine what a thrill it is for me to be back 20 years later in the same boots, the same corset, the jacket I had on earlier, the same Gucci jacket. So, it’s like a full circle moment, very meaningful for me.”

After a surprise astrology lesson, Madonna advised, “So in all circumstances for the rest of the month, let’s try to get along,” adding, “the great thing about music is that it brings people together, am I right? It’s the one place that people have to put their differences aside, put their shit down, and just everybody have a good time together.”

“So, I am thrilled to be a part of that healing experience, bringing people together,” she said, before launching into a breathtaking duet of “Like a Prayer” with Carpenter.

Madonna’s appearance at Coachella arrives after the recent announcement of the highly anticipated sequel to her 2005 LP Confessions on a Dance Floor, titled Confessions II. The album is set to come out July 3.

“People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong,” Madonna said in a statement. “The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”

The pop legend also unveiled the first taste of the upcoming LP, “I Feel So Free.” iHeartRadio’s Pride Radio exclusively debuted the single on Friday, April 17).
