The Guthrie family made a new plea Saturday for anyone to “come forward” with information regarding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, following the release of two early ransom notes on Friday.
The notes were originally sent to a Tucson TV station, KOLD, after Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared Feb. 1 from her home, authorities reported in a press release associated with the release of the notes.
“Someone recognizes the writing in the ransom demand notes,” Savannah Guthrie wrote in a Facebook post Saturday about the kidnapping. “You can do so anonymously. The reward is available. There is a way to end this situation and do the right thing.”
The second ransom note released by authorities indicated Nancy Guthrie died shortly after being kidnapped of something that was “heart related.”
“She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry,” the letter read.
The first ransom note had two deadlines to transfer $4 million in bitcoin by Feb. 5 or $6 million in bitcoin by Feb. 9.
“Your mother is aware of this and her life is in your hands,” it continued.
Authorities stated in the press release that the writing may be recognizable to someone because of its “distinctive linguistic characteristics.”
“A friend, family member, coworker, classmate or acquaintance may recognize these patterns of expression and possess information that could help identify the individual responsible,” the press release continued.
The FBI announced on the social platform X at the beginning of July that it was investigating reported ransom notes that “may be legitimate.” Other ransom letters were similarly sent to media stations including two emails in early February that TMZ said were verified by the FBI as legitimate.
Savannah Guthrie wrote that her family “will never stop looking for answers” and that they “will never stop looking for the light.”
“Please. Bring her home,” she concluded.
A researcher and psychiatric clinical nurse specialist who worked for years with the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit Dr. Ann Burgess believed the disappearance could be retribution.
“I think something went very wrong inside the house … because you know, there was blood,” Burgess said.
