Kerry Washington, “Imperfect Women” Apple TV Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Updated: April 16, 2026): The lead actress (limited) race does not appear as deep as in years past, which could open the door for a few surprises.
Netflix dropped the second season of its anthology series “Beef” this week, with three-time Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan delivering standout work that could pave the way for her first career Emmy nomination.
The streaming giant has a strong slate of contenders this cycle, including Emmy winner Claire Danes in the fall miniseries “The Beast in Me,” Tessa Thompson in “His and Hers,” which became one of the most-watched titles in Netflix history, and two-time Oscar winner Sally Field in the upcoming film adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s novel “Remarkably Bright Creatures.” Notably, performers from limited series and television movies compete together in these acting categories.
Sarah Pidgeon’s portrayal of Carolyn Bessette in Ryan Murphy’s “Love Story” is another performance gaining traction, positioning her as a potential first-time nominee — and possibly even a winner. A wave of fall contenders could also reemerge in the conversation, including Sarah Snook in Peacock’s “All Her Fault” and Patricia Arquette in Hulu’s “Murdaugh: Death in the Family,” both of whom may benefit from renewed visibility.
Also in the mix is the one-two punch from Apple TV+’s “Imperfect Women,” the psychological thriller miniseries led by Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington. With 15 career Emmy nominations across “Mad Men,” “Top of the Lake” and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Moss remains a familiar and formidable presence voters may readily embrace. However, much of the buzz has centered on Washington’s performance. With nine career nominations spanning acting and producing, she could break through — though she may need broader support for the series in other categories to secure a spot.
All official category submissions have yet to be confirmed, and the field could shift before the end of the eligibility cycle.
The Emmy Awards timeline begins with nomination-round voting from June 11-22, with nominations announced on July 8. The final voting runs from Aug. 17-26, leading into the Creative Arts Awards and Governors Gala on Sept. 5–6, culminating with the Emmy Awards ceremony on Sept. 14 on NBC.
