Writer E. Jean Carroll asked a federal court on Tuesday to release over $5 million to her per day after the Supreme Court refused President Trump’s request to overturn a jury verdict that found he abused her in the mid-1990s and defamed her.

Carroll’s attorneys filed papers in Manhattan federal court, which said the president was unjustly trying to delay the release of these funds after the high court unanimously declined to hear an appeal in this case.

The advice columnist first came forward publicly with her claims during Trump’s first presidency in 2019. Carroll said he assaulted her in a dressing room in the spring of 1996 at a luxury department store in Midtown Manhattan. She has since taken him to trial in New York twice and won.

Trump claimed to have never met Carroll, and he maintains that she fabricated her story. His lawyers also argued that the trial was tainted with prejudicial evidence, including the playing of the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump can be heard bragging about grabbing women by their genitals.

The Supreme Court’s order was centered on Carroll’s first successful lawsuit against the president in 2023, in which a jury awarded her $5 million for defamation. On Tuesday, the author’s lawyers requested this amount, plus an additional nearly $800,000 in interest.

Trump responded to the court’s decision on Tuesday in a Truth Social post, repeating his statement that he has never met Carroll.

“I will continue the fight against this Weaponization and Lawfare Case against me, including the ridiculous claim of Defamation, with all of my power and strength,” he wrote.

“This Case is really against the United States of America, and all it stands for, and should never be allowed to happen to another President, or Candidate to be!” the president continued. “New York State created a Law, for an instant speck of time, going back many decades, in order to wrongfully “nab” me. It was tailormade, and this Injustice cannot be allowed to stand!”
