The wave of far-left election spoilers has spread west. In Colorado’s primary elections on Tuesday, another longtime Democratic House member, Rep. Diana DeGette, lost her seat. Democratic socialist Melat Kiros soundly defeated her.

Read about that race and other takeaways here.

President Trump is traveling to North Dakota on Wednesday for events marking America’s 250th anniversary. He will first take a ride on the Freedom250 train before attending the opening ceremony for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, N.D. It will mark his first trip on the new plane designated as Air Force One, a gift from Qatar.

The House has left Washington earlier than planned, as a renewed push for Congress to pass a voter ID bill ground the chamber to a halt.

Hard-line conservatives in the House have been frustrated that the Senate has yet to take action on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and the presentation of an ID to cast a ballot.

On Tuesday, these hard-liners blocked a procedural rule due to their frustrations. After the blow to his agenda for the week, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) sent lawmakers home for a holiday recess.

The president’s SAVE America Act push has raised questions about why he is investing so much political capital into the legislation he has admitted he does not believe will ultimately pass.

Elsewhere, officials from the U.S., Canada and Mexico are meeting in New York to discuss the free trade agreement between the three countries that was implemented during Trump’s first term. The Trump administration is reportedly expected to formally declare that it will not extend the agreement, kicking off a decade-long wind-down process.
