Democratic strategist James Carville doubled down Friday on his criticism of Democrats’ messaging ahead of the midterms, arguing it is “not meeting the moment.”

Carville added that key races should be more focused on real campaign issues, such as the affordability crisis and impacts from the ongoing war in Iran, not what he has witnessed while watching some debates.

“I have got to tell you I am not impressed by the response of a lot of people in the Democratic Party,” the strategist told MS Now’s Ari Melber.

“We’re having a race in Michigan and we’re talking about Palestinian self-determination. We’re having a race in Wisconsin, we’re talking about whether we should tax Harley-Davidson 17 percent,” he continued later. “We’re not meeting the moment!”

Carville, who previously served as a top adviser to former President Clinton, pressed those on the left who are considering a presidential run to go for it. But, he warned, they need to craft sharper messaging.

“My hope and my prayers, any Democrat out there thinking run for president, you have something to offer? For God’s sake run, run for office because we’re not getting … we got nothing but problems,” he told Melber.

The strategist lamented that Democrats were instead getting “stupid talking points” from politicians about “a war that’s gone on for 5000 years and not likely to get solved between now and election day.”

He added, “I think the state of the country is even more perilous than you even let it on to be.”

The latest critique comes as progressives in the party have seen their stock rise in recent primary elections. The wins showcase a growing rift within the caucus ahead of November, though party leaders have brushed it off.

Carville has often been critical of the far-left factions of the party, recently calling democratic socialists and more progressive candidates “insurgents.” In a separate interview, the pundit also claimed the progressive strategy is to fight against both Republicans and establishment Democrats, calling them “part of the problem.”
