Briton Staines' 61-second win earns UFC contract

Britain's George Staines stopped Loai Abushaar in stunning fashion to earn a UFC contract in Dana White's Contender Series.

Staines, 26, took just 61 seconds to rubberstamp his spot in MMA's leading promotion.

The lightweight, who hails from Hull but trains alongside UFC star Paddy Pimblett in Liverpool, slammed Abushaar to the floor before finishing with ground-and-pound.

He was one of four fighters to be handed a contract and was cheered on by Pimblett and fellow UFC fighter Luke Riley as he closed out the show in Las Vegas.

"George, you were up against a massive guy at 155lb and you absolutely destroyed him," UFC president Dana White said.

"It was one of the greatest finishes ever, you made it look easy - congratulations and welcome to the UFC."

Victory extended Staines' perfect professional record to 11 victories, having previously competed under the banner of Oktagon and Cage Warriors.
