Christian Tierney/Prime Amazon Prime Video has announced the first cast members for “Boys of Tommen,” the upcoming adaptation of the bestselling book series of the same name, written by Irish author Chloe Walsh. Nancy Surridge is set to lead the cast as Shannon Lynch, described as “a shy and mysterious girl new to Tommen College,” and Conor Sánchez is Johnny Kavanagh, said to be “the golden boy of Tommen and Shannon’s love interest.” James O’Donoghue will play Shannon’s older brother, Joey, described as “troubled but loyal,” while Sophie McGibbon will take on Joey’s love interest, the “fiercely confident” Aoife Molloy. Per the official description, “Boys of Tommen” follows the “forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career, and Shannon Lynch, the talented but painfully shy new girl at the prestigious private school of Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both teenagers are hiding secrets; Johnny, a potentially career-ending injury, and Shannon, a troubled and violent home life. Through their secret and highly charged connection, the two teens from opposite worlds battle against the odds and find a way to save each other.” Brendan Canty (Christy) will direct the series, with Ingrid Goodwin as series producer. “The Boys of Tommen” marks Surridge’s first role, with Sánchez recently appearing in the period biopic “Power & Glory” and vampire thriller “One Night.” The Irish-American O’Donoghue plays Luka Otis in AMC’s supernatural thriller “Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale,” and McGibbon is set to appear on the Working Title Films’ adaptation of “Sense & Sensibility.” Canty said, “As someone who grew up in Cork, where these stories are set, this project feels incredibly personal to me. Poppy has done an amazing job adapting Chloe’s beloved books, and the way both writers capture young people’s lives with such empathy, tenderness and honesty feels truly extraordinary to me. To do justice to the world they’ve created, we knew that finding the right cast was going to be everything. We searched far and wide, receiving over 3000 casting suggestions from across the UK and Ireland, but from the moment Nancy, Conor, James and Sophie walked into the room, it was clear we’d found something beyond special. Each of them brings the spirit and emotional depth this story demands, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring Chloe’s world to the screen with this extraordinary young cast.” Adapted by Poppy Cogan (“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”), the series will be based on the first two novels in Walsh’s bestselling series, “Binding 13” and “Keeping 13”. Cogan also serves as executive producer alongside Walsh, Wiip’s Paul Lee, Hope Hartman and Sean Flanagan, Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman and Annika Patten and Drama Republic’s Greg Brenman and Deena Butt. Carla Stronge serves as casting director. “Boys of Tommen” was greenlit earlier this year and is produced by global independent studio Wiip in association with Amazon MGM Studios, with Metropolitan providing local production services.
