This Is About Humanity has selected the honoree for its annual summer soirée, this year presenting Wilmer Valderrama with the This Is About Humanity Humanitarian Award.

The honor recognizes an individual whose dedication to raising awareness of separated and re-unified families at the U.S./Mexico border has inspired meaningful change. It will be presented at the 8th annual Soirée event — which benefits the organization’s fund at the International Community Foundation, programs with Immigrant Defenders Law Center and its food relief kitchen at the border — on Aug. 29 in L.A.

In a Patriotic New Memoir, Wilmer Valderrama Extols the Possibilities of the American Dream

“It is a privilege to recognize Wilmer’s extraordinary advocacy, compassion, and leadership within our community,” This Is About Humanity co-founders Elsa Marie Collins, Zoe Winker Reinis and Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade said in a statement. “His tireless efforts have not only raised awareness for our organization’s mission, but created meaningful conversation in support of families navigating unimaginable circumstances. We are looking forward to honoring his lasting impact with all our supporters and partners this month.”

Valderrama said of the honor, “The fight for good in this world can feel never ending, but sometimes you meet other incredible voices in the trenches. I have long admired and been proud to support what Elsa, Zoe and Yolanda have built with This Is About Humanity. They are passionate and tenacious leaders committed to driving change. It is so deeply meaningful that they see me as their brother in our shared commitment to ensure a future where every family feels seen and valued.”

The star has been an outspoken advocate against U.S. border family separations and founded the nonprofit organization Harness alongside America Ferrera and Ryan Piers Williams, bringing together artists and activists to advance social justice through storytelling and civic engagement. Valderrama also serves on the board of Voto Latino and as the spokesperson for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
