Steve Clarke and the Scotland squad have not even left their World Cup base yet and already the attention has turned to what comes next.

A search will soon start after the shock news of the head coach's resignation in the early hours of Sunday, but who will replace him?

Could it be a big name? Do they have to be Scottish? Who are the realistic candidates? Here's what the fans are saying...

Postecoglou? Or another big name?

Tommy: I think Ange Postecoglou is a consideration but his recent record is poor. Whatever happens we have to accept this is no quick fix. The players let us down big time.

Neil: Postecoglou would be the perfect fit. He would get the players playing with swagger and confidence, and he can be pragmatic when needed.

Colin: Postecoglou. Let's get the ball forward at pace and put teams under pressure. It's time to leave behind the 'let's keep it tight' philosophy we've followed since the 1990s.

Gordon: Postecoglou, a serial winner, who knows the Scottish game, has had great success as the Australian national coach and, most of all, knows how to get his players to score goals.

Kev D: Scotland should turn to Postecoglou. He has the CV, having managed at a World Cup and in Scotland. His style will get the team back on the front foot and he has charisma and authority.

Mark: There is no rush but I would look at Postecoglou, Kasper Hjulmand and Jurgen Klinsmann as an outsider. Whoever comes in has a good job as we will be at the next Euros with us being one of the host nations with a really good chance to get through groups for the first time.

Ewan: Need someone who has experience of Scottish football and international football - could we consider Roberto Martinez if he leaves Portugal?

Gavin: Given there are no outstanding Scottish candidates, I'd look at someone like Thomas Frank. Comes across as knowledgeable and intelligent with a tactical plan that would suit our team.

Is Moyes the standout Scottish candidate?

Sophie: We need to do everything to ensure David Moyes is the next Scotland manager. Even if that means an interim until he's available. He has the right experience and passion for Scotland.

Thomas: Glad to see Clarke go. Davie Moyes would be the next manager for me. I would prefer it to be a Scottish manager at least.

Eric: There's only one outstanding Scottish candidate - David Moyes. Way better tactically and equally as grumpy.

Euan: Moyes has to be the first call. I'm sure he would be tempted. It feels like we've been calling for Moyes for 15 years but it's never worked out. Great foundations laid by Clarke, Moyes is the calibre of coach to take us to the next level.

Luke: The dream would be Moyes but he's enjoying life at Everton. Derek McInnes went to Rangers too soon as he would have been great too. I'd take a punt on passion and try out Scott Brown.

Rory: I think Darren Fletcher, Scott Brown, and Callum Davidson are my favourites for the Scotland job. They all know international football as players. And have some coaching experience.

Joe: Alex Neil probably. Think it would have been McInnes if he hadn't gone to Rangers.

Shaun: I'd go for someone younger such as Neil if it had to be a Scotsman. If it was foreigner, then Kasper Hjulmand is a good shout though not sure how likely.

Killie Tadley: McInnes has his dream job, Moyes won't leave Everton... give it to a Scottish manager. John McGlynn with Scott Brown and Neil McCann as back-up on a part-time basis.

Craig: McGlynn seems to be in the same mould as Clarke, but everyone absolutely loves McGlynn-ball. He could be a brilliant left-field option for us.

Russell: For all the criticism Clarke's had, there isn't an obvious replacement. Maybe Steven Naismith should step up? Otherwise I think they'll go abroad.

Fergus: I'd prefer the SFA to do a proper recruitment process, instead of trotting out the usual candidates. I don't see why we can't have a foreign coach in place, Scottish coaches are too fearful and pragmatic, I'd happily see a Scandinavian coach come in, they seem to have a bold approach and aren't fearful to be on the front foot.
