Following their statement-making appearance at Coachella, the Strokes are hitting the road for an extended tour in June. They’ll be making plenty of festival stops along the way, including Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Just Like Heaven, and Shaky Knees.

The tour kicks off ahead of the release of their seventh studio album, Reality Awaits, their first studio album since 2020’s The New Abnormal. We got a taste of Reality Awaits with “Going Shopping,” a characteristically tongue-in-cheek send-up of modern life featuring lead singer Julian Casablancas’ auto-tuned vocals.

The tour will be supported by Thundercat, Cage the Elephant, Hamilton Leithauser, Fat White Family, Alex Cameron, and ÖLÜ. Once the U.S. leg wraps up in September, the Strokes will head to Europe, with dates in Berlin, Barcelona, Paris, and Dublin.

During the second weekend of their politically charged Coachella set, the band showed a montage of various governments the U.S. has invaded or overthrown as a criticism of the nation’s involvement in Iran.

In recent years, the Strokes have become increasingly involved in political campaigns and issues. They performed in support of Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential bid and Maya Wiley’s 2021 New York mayoral bid, but the band’s political streak dates back to the 2001 track, “New York City Cops” (which was scrapped from the U.S. version of Is This It).
