What is postpartum psychosis and why is it central in the Lindsay Clancy trial?Close

Lindsay Clancy is accused of killing her three children in Massachusetts in 2023. Her defence says she was suffering from severe postpartum mental illness, including psychosis, while prosecutors argue she acted deliberately. Postpartum psychosis has become a key focus of the case.

The BBC's Ana Faguy explains.

If you are suffering distress or despair and need support, you could speak to a health professional, or an organisation that offers support. Details of help available in many countries can be found at Befrienders Worldwide. www.befrienders.org.

In the UK a list of organisations that can help is available at bbc.co.uk/actionline.
