Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett will testify before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday afternoon on the high court’s $225 million fiscal 2027 budget request.
Kagan and Coney Barrett faced questions from the House earlier Tuesday focused on the additional $14.6 million requested for extra security to protect the justices and their families amid rising political threats, among other things. According to the U.S. Marshals there have been more than 370 threats to federal judges so far this year.
The duo also spoke about the need for additional cybersecurity personnel within the court to address vulnerabilities related to the expansion of artificial intelligence.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
