Chris Robinson performs on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' YouTube/Jimmy Kimmel Live Chris Robinson stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform a cover Otis Redding‘s 1966 track “Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song).” The Black Crowes frontman was joined by Rachael Price and the late-night show’s house band, the Cletones, for the bluesy rendition.
Robinson told Jimmy Kimmel he selected the song because Redding is his “favorite soul singer.” “Being from Atlanta originally, R&B music, soul music, funk music—it’s a big part of the rock ‘n’ roll we make,” he said.
Black Crowes recently released their 10th studio album, A Pound of Feathers, which was recorded with Nashville producer Jay Joyce. The band was also nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in February. Robinson spoke to Kimmel about the nomination and the band’s new music, as well as his ongoing issue of forgetting his lyrics onstage.
Kimmel reminded Robinson of how he said in 2017 that he is “not going” to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame if inducted. The musician explained that he used to be “negative about the whole thing.”
“Things definitely changed,” he said. “I wasn’t in the Black Crowes at that time I made that salacious comment. But it is true, the Black Crowes were kind of more famous, my brother and I, for hating each other than the songs and the music. It worked for Oasis. I don’t know why it didn’t work for us.”
Robinson and his brother Rich patched up their differences to reunite the band in 2019, which he said has been the most “fulfilling and gratifying” experience. “It’s been fantastic,” he noted.
