Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Monday said she seldom pays attention to comments and musings made by longtime Democratic strategist James Carville.

TMZ spoke with Warren about Carville’s comments over the weekend that he would leave the Democratic Party if left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker became a party mainstay. Learning of the remark caused the Massachusetts Democrat to smile and shake her head.

“Look, James Carville has an opinion on everything, and I pay attention to almost one out of 10,” she said before entering a car.

Carville, who rose to fame after working on former President Clinton’s successful 1992 campaign, has been outspoken in his opposition to the rising tide of progressives and democratic socialists running as Democrats during this year’s midterm election cycle.

Piker, a self-described socialist who has used his platform to raise millions of dollars for various causes and to talk about domestic and international politics, including ripping into the U.S.’s support for Israel during its war with Hamas in Gaza, has become a more prominent voice in the left’s electoral victories.

Carville told Fox News on Sunday that he’s “not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker.”

“I have no intention of ever being in the same political party with that guy. Now, I think that a majority –– overwhelming majority of Democrats agree with me, but this idea that we’re going to seize the means of production and this –– just go look at the DSA platform,” he added, referring to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

The strategist also accused progressives of being “too hotheaded to know that they’re not popular” in an interview on CNN’s “The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper,” adding that they “don’t win elections,” referring to Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) unsuccessful presidential campaigns in 2016 and 2020.

Piker, who was interviewed on the same series, mocked the claim.

“Yeah, as opposed to previous neoliberal Democratic candidacies that have been spectacular successes so far. Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2016, and Kamala Harris in 2024,” he said, referring to the party’s losses at the federal level over the past decade.

The ideological struggle reflects one within the Democratic Party, where mainstream, pro-Israel Democrats have faced challenges and lost to candidates who call themselves democratic socialists and who demonstrated against Israel’s war in Gaza.

Many Democratic lawmakers have argued that the party has a “big tent” that can include a diversity of voices. Sen Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) made this argument on CNN on Monday.

“We all encouraged our colleagues to support [Former Rep.] Joe Manchin [I-W.Va.]. He was the Democrat that could win in West Virginia, and I certainly supported Joe,” Van Hollen told CNN’s Kasey Hunt “And when [New York City Mayor Zohran] Mamdani becomes the democratic nominee in New York City, we should be supporting Mamdani.”

“And I think the Democratic Party is big enough to be able to take both voices,” he added.

Carville’s lament has not gone unheard on the right. Fox News host Laura Ingraham said he should join the Republican Party “to defeat this scourge.”

“So, instead of fighting with the types of people who watch ‘The Ingraham Angle,’ Carville and other Democrats who oppose socialism should join our effort to turn the GOP into a party that is rebuilding the American middle class,” she said during her show Monday. “Turn to us.”
