Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) said that his party “ought to talk less and deliver more” amid “frustration” from voters and the recent rise of democratic socialists in the national political arena.
In a Monday interview on CNBC, “Squawk Box” co-anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin pressed Warner on the Democratic Party’s standing and democratic socialists’ wins in primaries in New York, Colorado and Pennsylvania in recent months.
“Listen, I think people are frustrated,” he said. “I very much disagree with some of the [Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)] positions, but there is a level of wealth inequality in this country that we’ve got to address.”
Warner added that this frustration stems from the fact that the Democratic Party will “talk a good game sometimes,” but fail to deliver due “too much bureaucracy.”
“So, I think the Democratic Party, directionally, is right. I think we ought to talk less and deliver more,” Warner continued. “And that frustration that we don’t deliver more comes out with some of these folks on the extreme.”
In the last year, multiple democratic socialist candidates have mounted successful campaigns against more moderate figures in Democratic primaries and general elections.
One of the most notable victories was that of now-New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) in 2025. Mamdani is now one of the Democratic Party’s most prominent figures on the national stage.
