Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard took the overall leader's pink jersey as he rode away from the rest of the favourites on the final climb to win a mountainous stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia.
The two-time Tour de France winner claimed his third stage win of the 2026 edition with a superb late attack on the brutal 133km stage through the mountains to Pila.
His Visma-Lease a Bike team led the peloton from the beginning of the last, toughest climb - a 16.6km drag to the finish line - and gradually reeled in a breakaway group.
Vingegaard's team-mate Davide Piganzoli led him to the front and from there he made his move to secure the pink jersey for the first time.
Overnight leader Afonso Eulalio - who had led since stage five - slipped to second overall, nearly two and a half minutes behind.
"Today we made a plan from the start with the team, and we wanted to control the race, and that's what my team-mates did," Vingegaard said.
"It was really impressive how they rode, and I'm so proud of my team-mates, and I'm proud that I can pay them back - it's a super nice win."
Vingegaard, racing in the Giro for the first time, is aiming to become just the eighth rider to win all three Grand Tours.
He finished 49 seconds ahead of Austrian Felix Gall in second, with former winner Jai Hindley of Australia third on Saturday.
