The U.S. military conducted airstrikes against Iran for the fourth day in a row on Tuesday, targeting “emerging threats” from Tehran, a U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Hill.
The official said U.S. forces carried out a “few” additional strikes on military targets in Iran, kinetic action that comes just hours after President Trump announced he would nix his proposal from Monday for a 20 percent tolling fee on cargo transiting the Strait of Hormuz and would instead discuss trade and investment deals with Gulf countries.
The fresh round of strikes also took place just shortly before the U.S. Navy is set to reimpose the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of the world’s oil supply flows.
The blockade, which was lifted last month, is set to go into effect Tuesday at 4 p.m. EDT, according to the U.S. Central Command
“We will therefore have a FULL Blockade, but only on Ships coming to and from Iranian ports, or carrying anything have to do with Iranian cargo,” Trump wrote earlier Tuesday on Truth Social.
On Monday, the U.S. struck dozens of Iranian military targets, including in Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas.
Iranian forces targeted a pair of United Arab Emirates tankers in the strait with cruise missiles, the UAE Ministry of Defense said on Monday.
Last week, the U.S. military conducted four rounds of strikes against Iran, hitting more than 300 targets across the southern end of the nation.
