Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb said during a weekend interview that acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has demonstrated “total fealty” to President Trump.

Cobb pushed back when asked during a Saturday appearance on “Mehdi Unfiltered” on Zeteo if Blanche would stand “up to Trump if he’s asked to find some fake evidence of voter fraud,” telling host Mehdi Hasan “we’re screwed.”

“I think Blanche has demonstrated total fealty to the president,” he later said in the interview. “Actually, renewed grounds to be concerned about: his devotion to the president over the rule of law were solidified yesterday when he alerted all the U.S. attorneys’ offices in the country that the U.S. attorneys were bound to follow whatever Trump’s edicts were, notwithstanding the evidence and cases and whatever their historical, ethical obligations may have been as they perceive them.”

Cobb added that it was “almost certain” that Trump will “continue his passionate effort to rewrite history and make the Jan. 6, thugs heroes in his version of history.”

Senators confirmed Blanche as the next attorney general in a 50-49 vote early Saturday morning.

He faced difficulty in clinching the approval of some Republican lawmakers concerned about an $1.776 million “anti-weaponization fund” to compensate people who believe they were unfairly or illegally persecuted by the federal government. Blanche approved the fund before formally rescinding it last week.

Some Senate Republicans questioned if Blanche could maintain his independence after having been Trump’s former personal attorney. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) wrote on Friday that the attorney general needed to be someone “who will check the worst impulses of this administration.”

Democratic lawmakers like Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), meanwhile, accused Blanche of having lied under oath about the fate of the “anti-weaponization fund” being rescinded prior to his testimony before senators.

“Blanche has already shown us exactly where his loyalties lie — and it’s not with the law or the American people,” Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) said in a statement on social media on Saturday. “It’s with protecting Trump’s allies and enabling unprecedented corruption at DOJ.”

Blanche also faced criticism over his handling of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) legally mandated release of its files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Some survivors of Epstein’s crimes urged the Senate to vote against Blanche’s nomination, saying the DOJ failed to properly redact identifying information that would put victims at risk.

Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) accused Blanche of a “complete and total mishandling of the Epstein files,” writing on social media that the country deserves “an Attorney General whose first loyalty is to the Constitution, not the President, and I’m going to do everything I can to hold him accountable.”
