President Trump touted affordability, investments and jobs Tuesday as he hit the campaign trail once again, this time in key swing state Pennsylvania.

The president visited the Mack Truck facility in Macungie, a part of Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, which is set to be a major battleground election for a U.S. House seat come November.

Trump’s visit comes as his administration is facing economic headwinds. While the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to continue nuclear talks and open the Strait of Hormuz, prices remain high, including at the gas pump.

Affordability is expected to be a hot topic in the midterms, as Democrats blame the conflict in Iran for rising inflation.

Still, Trump touted lower oil and gas prices and rises in the stock market and 401(k)s.

“The stock market hit a new high today again, and oil, for the first time in months, hit — think of it, $70 a barrel,” he said. “That equates to a very low price. That oil is going to come charging down, and with oil comes everything else.”

Gas prices have dipped below $4 per gallon for the first time in months after the MOU was signed. The national average price of a gallon of regular gas is about $3.92, according to AAA Tuesday.

“Remember this: we had to make this detour,” he said. “We had to go to Iran. Can’t let them blow up the Middle East, and then us, if that’s possible.”

He hit the Democrats, using his more recent nickname for the party, “Dumocrats,” saying he inherited the high inflation and prices from them.

Polls show Americans are not happy with Trump’s handling of the economy or his handling of the Iran war. Only a third of Americans say they approve of how the president is handling the economy, according to a June NPR/PBS News/Marist poll.

The latest CBS News/YouGov poll  found that 57 percent of Americans feel the conflict has caused more problems than it has solved.

This is his fifth time visiting the battleground state during his second term. His wins in the Keystone State in 2016 and 2024 helped him win both elections. He visited Philadelphia in March 2025 to attend the NCAA wrestling championship; West Mifflin in June 2025 to discuss steel tariffs; Pittsburgh in July to talk about energy and technology investments and Mount Pocono in December to discuss affordability.

The district’s House seat is held by Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie. He faces Democratic challenger Bob Brooks in November.

Mackenzie won the seat in 2024, and it’s a key district that Democrats have their sights set on flipping.

Trump brought Mackenzie briefly up to the stage.

“We gotta get Ryan Mackenzie elected,” Trump said.

“We gotta make sure you vote for our congressman here,” he said. “I’m not doing this for my health.”

Before his remarks, Trump toured the factory. Former President Biden also visited the Mack Truck facility for a similar speech in 2021.

Mack Trucks has about 2,800 workers, Mack spokesperson Kimberly Pupillo told The Associated Press.
