President Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup Final in New Jersey next month and help present the championship trophy, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Tuesday.
The final, to be held in the home of the New York Giants and Jets on July 19, will be the culmination of the first World Cup held on North American soil in more than 20 years.
“We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course,” Infantino said during a “Fox & Friends” appearance. “Of course, we are together all the time.”
Trump is an avid sports fan and has attended a number of major sporting events in recent months, including an NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden, University of Alabama football game and UFC fight held on the White House lawn.
Infantino has gone to great lengths to build an alliance with Trump, presenting him with FIFA’s first-ever “Peace Prize” last year.
“And you can always count, Mr. President, on my support, on the support of the entire … soccer community to help you make peace and make the world prosper,” the FIFA leader said at the time.
The U.S. men’s national team is off to its best World Cup start in recent memory, winning its first two group stage matches and clinching a spot in the knockout round, which begins next week.
