President Trump said late Wednesday that the Senate striking down another war powers resolution “puts Iran on notice” amid negotiations between the two nations for a long-term deal to end the conflict in the region.

“Wow! The Senate just changed its vote on Iran from 50-48 against, to 50-47 for,” the president wrote on Truth Social.

“This vote puts Iran on notice,” he added later.

After backing a successful war powers resolution on Tuesday, Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy (La.) voted against a similar measure on Wednesday. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), meanwhile, voted present — after consistently voting with Democrats on resolutions since the U.S. and Israel first struck Iran in February.

Cassidy changed his vote after a heated discussion with Trump during a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

“I stood and said, ‘You have not told the American people what’s going on [in Iran],” Cassidy told reporters of the exchange. “It was supposed to last four weeks, it’s lasted four months. Our original objectives have not been achieved and I want to know what’s going on.”

Trump then yelled at the senator, with the Louisiana Republican responding in kind.

After the back-and-forth, Cassidy received a briefing on Iran from Vice President Vance and special envoy Steve Witkoff at the White House.

Prior to voting against the latest unsuccessful war powers resolution, the GOP senator thanked Vance and Witkoff for a “thorough” briefing on the ongoing military operation.

“I appreciate the quick invitation to the White House to address many of my concerns,” he wrote on social platform X.

Paul said while his opinion on the war and “executive power” has not changed, he voted present to give Trump “more space and leverage to negotiate a lasting peace” with Iran.

Two Republicans still voted in favor of Wednesday’s war powers resolution: Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who faces a tough reelection battle against Democrat Graham Platner, and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).

In his Wednesday post, Trump specifically thanked Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Bernie Moreno (Ohio). Graham has staunchly supported the war in Iran.
