Melinda Sue Gordon/Universal Pictures “The Odyssey” will play on Imax 70mm locations through the end of September.
Due to sustained demand, Imax is once again extending the run for “The Odyssey” in Christopher Nolan‘s preferred big-screen format through Sept. 30, stretching its historic run on 70mm to 11 weeks.
“The Odyssey” is already the highest-grossing Imax release of all time with $457 million globally, crushing the benchmark long-held by 2009’s “Avatar” with $271 million, not adjusted for inflation. For context, “The Odyssey” has generated more in Imax than many movies have earned across all screens and formats in post-pandemic times. Imax’s coveted 70mm screens — of which there are only 41 in the world — have contributed a stunning $66 million, translating to $1.6 million per location.
