He likes to take his time. “What am I trying to say?” he asks himself repeatedly in conversation, pausing to truly consider that question before continuing to speak. And he doesn’t speak at all on an empty stomach. “I don’t want to say something mean and get canceled,” Rock says more than once while reaching for a bite of a pastrami sandwich. Sure, it’s just a joke. But he’s also a celebrity whose friends over the years have included Dave Chappelle and Kanye West. He’s seen firsthand what can happen when you don’t eat your pastrami.
