John Hannah, who played an erudite thief in 1999’s “The Mummy” and its two sequels, will return to the scene of the tomb raiding in the upcoming franchise reboot. He joins Brendan Fraser, who played a daring adventurer in those films, as well as Rachel Weisz, who portrayed Hannah’s sister.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are better known as Radio Silence, are directing the revival from a script by David Coggeshall, the writer of “The Family Plan.” Radio Silence is responsible for the “Ready or Not” films and also helped revitalize the “Scream” franchise with 2022’s “Scream” and 2023’s “Scream VI.” Universal is backing the film, which will hit theaters on May 19, 2028. Plot details are, for lack of a better phrase, being kept under wraps.
