The Beastie Boys x Levi’s Throw It Back to Nineties New York With Latest Tee Collection

Levi’s has long been associated with Americana and rock music, but the brand’s ongoing t-shirt collaborations highlight denim’s influence on everything from Britpop to hip-hop. The latest collaboration features designs from the Beastie Boys, following other 1980s and 1990s-inspired drops from New Order, Nas, Oasis, and Sonic Youth.

The Beastie Boys collection features three short-sleeve t-shirts and one black long-sleeve t-shirt, including two t-shirts inspired by Hello Nasty and a bold red t-shirt with the trio’s Licensed to Ill-era logo.

Notably, this isn’t the first time the denim giant has collaborated with the Beastie Boys. Mike D previously fronted a campaign for the San Francisco fashion brand, highlighting the classic 501 jeans.

The latest collection is inspired by the albums from across the band’s catalog, including the 1998 album Hello Nasty and the 1995 EP Root Down. The campaign, meanwhile, is inspired by the New York imagery from Beastie Boys’ seminal classic, Paul’s Boutique (fisheye-lens photos abound, naturally).

“Few groups have had the cultural impact of the Beastie Boys,” says Leo Gamboa, VP – Collaborations at Levi’s. “With this collection, we wanted to celebrate their legacy – the humor, the attitude, and the spirit of the ‘90s – in a way that feels true to them.”

The hip-hop trio, founded in 1981 by Adam “MCA” Yauch, Mike “Mike D” Diamond, and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, were known for its subversive, humor-filled lyrics and genre-bending sound, including classic albums such as Licensed to Ill, Paul’s Boutique, and Check Your Head.

Prices for the Levi’s x Beastie Boys collection range from $45 to $50. The shirts, cut from 100% cotton, feature a 1990s-inspired, relaxed, boxy fit. You can check out the full collection below.
