Terence Winter and Rachel Winter Brigitte Lacombe; Kurt Iswarienko Logo text Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated writer Terence Winter is taking on an animated series as his next TV project.
Winter and his wife, Oscar-nominated producer Rachel Winter, are developing an adult animated show called Nouvelle with Bizaar Studios, a year-old animation shop that counts George R.R. Martin and Jimmy Iovine among its backers. The project doesn’t have an outlet attached yet.
Nouvelle, inspired by Jacob Tomsky’s memoir Heads in Beds, will follow the staff, guests and enigmatic owner of a luxury hotel in New York. The pilot episode kicks off with a politician falling to his death after an encounter with a sex worker, leading to a host of secrets being exposed.

“A luxury hotel is the perfect setting for a modern Upstairs/Downstairs drama with a wonderful mishmash of characters,” said Rachel and Terence Winter. “We are compelled by stories about the perversion of the American dream and exploring themes of fantasy and fairy tale living side by side with the reality of the have-nots. It’s been thrilling to have Bizaar Studios’ support in creating this hotel world as a beacon of excess, boundary pushing, and heightened reality — a world that will be brought to life in a way that only the artistry of animation can do.”
Bizaar Studios, founded by Jeremy Iovine, Amir Mohamadzadeh and Eric Bromberg, launched in January 2025. Martin and Jimmy Iovine have stakes in the company and are part of its advisory board.
“In Nouvelle, Rachel and Terence Winter have crafted a rich, distinct world and story arc that will immediately draw viewers in,” said Jeremy Iovine. “The series will take audiences on an intricately constructed journey, leveraging animation to elevate the storytelling. We are excited to bring their first animated project to life.”
Terence Winter won four Emmys for his work as a writer and producer of The Sopranos and earned an Oscar nomination for his Wolf of Wall Street screenplay. He also created and executive produced HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl and exec produced the first two seasons of Paramount+’s Tulsa King.
Rachel Winter is also an Oscar nominee as a producer of Dallas Buyers Club. She also produced Peacock’s LeBron James biopic Shooting Stars and produced and directed the 2021 feature The Space Between. The Winters are also producing an Evel Knievel biopic that’s set up at Paramount.
