Courtesy of MUBI Mubi has released the full trailer for the queer satirical slasher “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.” The film stars Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, and is set for theatrical release via Mubi on August 7.
“Camp Miasma” marks writer-director Jane Schoenbrun’s third feature, following 2021’s “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” and 2024’s “I Saw the TV Glow.” The film’s meta plot description reads: “After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.” The cast also features Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Quintessa Swindell, Kevin McDonald and Jack Haven. The Cannes world premiere of “Camp Miasma” received a six-minute standing ovation, with Variety’s review of the film praising Anderson and Einbinder’s performances, along with Schoenbrun’s direction. In addition to the new film, Schoenbrun is also publishing their debut novel, “Public Access Afterworld,” this year via Hogarth. Schoenbrun is also set to write, direct and produce a series adaptation of the graphic novel “Black Hole” for Netflix.
“Camp Miasma” was financed by Mubi and produced by Plan B. The Match Factory is handling the remaining worldwide sales. Executive producer Daniel Bekerman from Scythia Films provided local production services. Watch the trailer for “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” below.
