A screen showing the game ‘Call of Duty’ displays Rob Stothard/Getty Images Paramount’s Call of Duty has a date to invade theaters. The studio revealed it will open the feature on June 30, 2028, making the announcement as part of its CinemaCon presentation Thursday.
“I told everyone we were only going to make a movie if its right. In David Ellison, we found that partnership,” said producer Rob Kostich, head of the video game company Activision, which makes Call of Duty. He added, “We want to make sure that the authenticity of it is captured on a human level so that it feels really real and infuse that with epic scope.”
Powerhouse TV creator Taylor Sheridan is diving back into the movie business as screenwriter of the project, penning the script with Pete Berg, who will also direct an adaptation of the first-person shooter game.
It’s a high profile swing for Paramount as the new Ellison regime attempts to beef up its franchises. Call of Duty is one of the most popular video games of all times, selling more than 500 million copies combined. It has been the top-selling franchise in the U.S. for 16 years. Its various installments have spanned wars from World War II to Vietnam to the present, as well as the future.
Sheridan and berg also produce Berg. David Glasser of Sheridan’s 101 Studios is among the producers.
