Stephan James (Selma, War Machine) and Colton Ryan (Chad Powers) have joined the legal thriller as series regulars alongside Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning and Josh Lucas. Filming on the A24-produced series began this week for a 2027 premiere date.
Based on a short story by author Chandler Baker — who is also writing the series adaptation — Discretion follows Lenny (Fanning), a summer associate at a prestigious Dallas law firm. She discovers a web of non-disclosure agreements (including one that she signed) that cover up a dark secret, putting her crosshairs of the firm’s most powerful female partner, Sharon (Kidman).

James will play Logan, an associate at the firm who becomes a mentor to Lenny. Ryan will play Lenny’s ex-boyfriend Boone, a recovering addict from a well-off Dallas family who’s living at a halfway house while trying to rebuild his life.
Ryan and Fanning previously starred together in Hulu’s limited series The Girl From Plainville.
Paramount+ won a bidding war for Discretion last fall, a few weeks after A24 began shopping the series. Baker is executive producing with Susannah Grant (Unbelievable, Erin Brockovich); Matt Shakman, who’s also directing the first four episodes; Kidman and Per Saari via their Blossom Films; Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures; Joe Hipps of A24-based Cut To; and Jordan Cerf of Linden Entertainment.
James is repped by Gersh, Range Media Partners, HillTop Entertainment and Jackoway Austen. Ryan is repped by Gersh and TFC Management.
