©Sony Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection Two action flicks, Paramount’s “By Any Means” and A24’s “Onslaught,” arrived in theaters on Friday. But neither could dethrone “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which remains No. 1 in its sixth weekend in theaters.
“Spider-Man” added $3.9 million on Friday, pushing it past the mind-boggling milestone of $900 million domestically. It’s now the fastest movie to cross the benchmark — doing so in just 36 days — and it beats the 50-day record set by 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The Marvel-Sony tentpole is projected to make $22 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend, pushing its domestic total to $922 million. It’s only a matter of time until “Brand New Day” crosses $936 million and passes “The Force Awakens” as the highest-grossing domestic film of all time.
