Singer-songwriter Alice Faye has been named BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year 2026.

Alice, who is known for her distinctive retro-pop sound, said she was on "cloud nine" and it was a "fabulous honour" to scoop the award.

The Scottish prize was announced at a show featuring the five finalists at Saint Luke's in Glasgow on Tuesday, which will be broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland on Friday during the BBC Introducing in Scotland programme.

The show plays a key role in supporting emerging artists and its contest has been described as a major career springboard.

Faye, who comes from Glasgow, began writing songs when she was at secondary school.

She said her year had been "truly made" by winning the title.

"I genuinely can't believe it and am so, so over the moon," she said.

As well as the title, the prize includes a recording session with BBC Radio Scotland, A performance slot at TRNSMT Festival and a PR campaign to help with promotion.

The search for this year's winner began in January, with hundreds of artists from across the country submitting their music.

Alice was joined by four other finalists - Katie Nicoll, Riley, J Wax and Lo Rays - who took to the stage to perform in front of a live audience.

This year's judging panel brought together voices from across the Scottish music industry, and included singer and presenter Shereen Cutkelvin, musician Hamish Hawk, international DJ Ewan McVicar and Anna Shields of Dead Pony.

The final was hosted by BBC Introducing in Scotland hosts Stephanie Cheape and Phoebe Inglis-Holmes.

BBC Introducing in Scotland plays a key role in supporting emerging artists by providing airplay, live performance opportunities and industry exposure.

Since launching in 2020, it has supported more than 500 artists across Scotland.

Victoria Easton-Riley, BBC Scotland's Head of Audio and Events, said: "The talent coming through Scotland right now is truly outstanding, and this year's finalists showcased an exciting and diverse range of music.

Alice is a hugely deserving winner, and we're proud that BBC Radio Scotland can support Scottish artists at such an important stage in their careers".

Previous winners of the BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year include Bemz, Terra Kin and Becky Sikasa.

In November, a Scottish act also scooped the UK-wide BBC Introducing prize.

Fife-bornJacob Alon became the first Scot to be named BBC Introducing Artist of the Year 2025.

Previous winners include Arlo Parks, Olivia Dean, Tom Grennan and Catfish and the Bottlemen – all of whom have gone on to major success in the UK and beyond.
