The Department of Justice has filed a federal lawsuit that accuses Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation of illegally monopolizing the live entertainment industry to the detriment of concertgoers and artists alike. The lawsuit seeks to structure how the company operates and includes breaking apart the two entities. (Photo by Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images) Getty Images

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren and four colleagues are urging the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to use its authority under the Tunney Act to closely examine the Department of Justice’s proposed settlement with Live Nation and Ticketmaster, in an effort to ensure the Department made its decision based on the public interest, according to an announcement from Sen. Klobuchar’s office.

The Senators say the deal does not restore competition and protect fans, artists and independent venues. Joining Klobuchar and Warren in signing the letter were Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Richard Blumenthal (D-Ct.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hi.), and Peter Welch (D-Vt.).
