Hollywood loves a comeback. In the new trailer for Chris Rock’s Misty Green, it questions if anyone really gets one. The clip finds Rosalind Eleazar, who stars as the titular character, fighting to reignite her career years after her first breakthrough. The film also stars Rock, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace.

The fast-paced trailer opens with a woman kicking Misty out of what she claims to be her husband’s apartment. While inspecting a gold award on the shelf, she says, “Best supporting actress, Misty Green. Is that you?”

Although Misty attempts to force her way back into the industry due to financial issues, her agent admits, “I get it, it’s tough out there. I don’t even know if I can get you on Law and Order right now.”

The trailer suggests that she’s been swept up in Hollywood’s decadence, led astray following her breakthrough role. While trying to justify her lifestyle to her friend played by Kendrick, she declares, “I wake up when I wanna wake up. I sleep when I wanna sleep. I get high when I wanna get high, and I fuck when I wanna fuck.” Laughing, Kendrick’s character replies, “I didn’t know you were a Lil Wayne song. That’s so cool.”

Yet, despite her lifestyle of debauchery, it soon becomes apparent that Misty’s second chance will likely come with strings attached. Driver’s character, who makes her an offer at a party, expresses, “I’m looking for open-minded friends who might want to make a little extra cash,” while handing her a card. The trailer then cuts to Driver dangling a glimmering necklace over the pool with his foot while girls struggle to reach for it, perhaps subtly alluding to Misty’s fate.

“We need to keep our eyes on the prize here,” her agent reminds her as her life descends into chaos. Moving between soundstages, wild parties, lonely city streets, and even jail, tension continues to build in the clip.

The film, which arrives this fall, marks Rock’s return to the director’s chair as his third feature film and most dramatic project yet. While his other movies like Top Five (2014) blurred the line between comedy and confession, Misty Green, based on an original script by Rock, focuses on a more intimate story about fame, addiction, regret, and what it costs to start over.
