Sony’s franchise reboot “Resident Evil” stormed to the summit of the U.K. and Ireland box office, debuting in first place with £4.2 million ($5.6 million) across its opening frame.

Warner Bros.’ “Practical Magic 2” moved to second place in its sophomore weekend, generating $2.03 million to bring its running total to $7.5 million. Studiocanal claimed third position with the debut of Aardman’s animated adventure “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom,” which banked $2.2 million in its opening session.
