The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee is reupping his probe into President Trump’s health records, less than a week after the president celebrated his 80th birthday

In a letter to the president’s doctor on Thursday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) questioned why 22 specialists were required to declare that Trump was in “excellent health” in a recent physical examination

“As the oldest person ever elected to the White House, President Trump turned 80 just this past Sunday,” the Maryland Democrat wrote. “In light of these troubling medical reports, so many unexplained signs of illness, and the existence of nearly two dozen different doctors on the case, the American people deserve honest and serious answers about whether he is up to the task.”

Raskin asked Capt. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s physician, to release more information about the president’s recent physical, including the 22 medical providers involved in the May exam and a full list of Trump’s medications.

Additionally, Raskin requested that Barbabella participate in a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee about Trump’s health by July 2.

The Democrat previously called for a full evaluation of the president’s cognitive abilities in a letter to Barbabella in April. In that request, Raskin cited the president’s comments on the Iran war, alleging that they merited a “comprehensive cognitive assessment.”

Trump has faced repeated questions about his health. After Barbabella released his assessment following Trump’s physical in May, Dr. Jonathan Reiner expressed concern about signs of swelling on Trump’s ankles and bruising on his hands.

Barbabella attributed the swelling to chronic venous insufficiency, which is common in adults over the age of 70, and the bruising to “minor soft tissue irritation” caused by frequent hand shaking and a high dose of aspirin that he takes daily for “cardiac prevention.”

Reiner, who was former Vice President Dick Cheney’s cardiologist, also questioned the decision to administer a CT scan. Barbabella said that the test was used to “definitely rule out any cardiovascular issues.”

In a statement shared with The Hill in response to Raskin’s request, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle derided the Democrat as a “stupid person’s idea of a smart person.”

“President Trump’s sharpness, unmatched energy, and historic accessibility stand in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration when Democrats like Raskin intentionally covered up Joe Biden’s serious mental and physical decline from the American people,” Ingle wrote.
