Harlequins ended a six-game Prem losing streak with a dogged 18-14 win to spoil Bristol's showpiece return to the Principality Stadium and hit their play-off hopes.
Bears captain Fitz Harding and Quins counterpart Alex Dombrandt traded a try apiece in a stunted first-half as a missed Quins conversion was the only difference between the sides.
But Bristol inaccuracy crept in as Harlequins took control in the second 40 minutes, with Jarrod Evans' penalty and Rodrigo Isgro's converted try putting them on-track for victory.
Steven Luatua threw Bristol a lifeline with a try in the closing stages but a Jamie Benson penalty kicked Harlequins four points clear for a deserved win, while defeat leaves Bristol fifth in the table, now seven points behind Exeter in fourth.
