Jae Stephens Cass Meyers Jae Stephens has a sticky hit on her hands with “Sugar Trap,” the latest single from the pop singer and songwriter’s upcoming debut studio album.
Dallas Caton’s bass-heavy production lays the foundation for the frantic and propulsive record. “I got him where I want him and that’s in too deep/I got his time, his diamonds, and a set of keys/He wants to get to know me better, I know what that means/He’s just imagining what’s underneath these Lucky jeans,” Stephens sings. “I tease him a little bit, and then I pump the brakes/Keep the good behavior up, might earn yourself a taste/He would wait forever if forever’s what it takes/I can see the feigning in his face.”
“[Sugar Trap] is all about knowing your power and how to use it,” Stephens shared in a statement. “I think we as women can be too quick to place our value in someone else’s hands, so I wrote this as a reminder that we are always the prize and should never give our time to anyone less than deserving!”
Later this week, Stephens will place the cherry on top of “Sugar Trap” release week with a performance on the BMI stage at Lollapalooza on Saturday, Aug. 1.
