Left-wing streamer Hasan Piker in a recent interview slammed the idea that progressive candidates pose a risk to Democrats in general elections.
In an interview featured on CNN’s “The Whole Story With Anderson Cooper” that premiered Sunday, the outlet’s Donie O’Sullivan pressed Piker about comments from Democratic strategist James Carville, who earlier in the episode expressed concern about progressive candidates failing when it comes to general elections.
“James Carville says this is all going to implode at the general election,” O’Sullivan noted.
“Yeah, as opposed to previous neoliberal Democratic candidacies that have been spectacular successes so far, you know, Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2016 and Kamala Harris in 2024,” Piker responded.
“I don’t think I’m like exceptionally good at proselytizing the gospel of socialism necessarily. I think there are a lot of people who are just like, ‘This is not working.’ Cost of living crisis is completely out of control; Democrats haven’t done anything about it; Republicans haven’t done anything about it. There has to be a different alternative,” he added.
Piker, who has seen his own stardom rise in the last few years alongside the success of progressive candidates in Democratic primaries, has been highly critical of the Democratic establishment.
He also has a history of controversial statements and is known for his anti-Israel views, a growing source of conflict within the American left as the U.S.’s support for the country continues.
