On Tuesday, PETA shared on YouTube a video where the Heroes and Nashville alum is at first photographed in a crammed bathtub for a campaign photograph. Then, while clothed and standing in front of the bathtub, she is captured on camera saying, “Imagine spending your entire life in a bathtub. That’s what it’s like for dolphins and whales in tiny tanks at marine amusement parks. We can end this, you and me.”

“Can you imagine their frustration, their trauma, their depression? All that is important and crucial for their well-being is ripped away,” Panettiere adds in the campaign appeal video, which PETA confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter was shot roughly two weeks before her unexpected death Sunday at 36.
The PETA campaign is aimed at marine parks like SeaWorld, and continues animal advocacy work by Panettiere that included, when she was 18, paddling into the waters of Taiji, Japan to confront dolphin hunters. That activism was captured in the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove.
“Today, in tribute to Panettiere’s life and legacy of compassion, PETA is sharing the ad and moving video encouraging everyone to honor her memory by doing as she asked: refusing to buy a ticket to any facility that condemns these sensitive animals to a tiny concrete tank,” the animal rights group said in a statement.
Panettiere ends the campaign video with a final message: “Vow today to never go to a marine park that keeps dolphins in extreme captivity. Together, we can end this cruelty.” Her credits also include the films I Love You, Beth Cooper (2009), Scream 4 (2011) and Scream VI (2023) and the title role in the 2011 Lifetime telefilm Amanda Knox.
