Perez Hilton David Becker/Getty Images Troubled celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has reportedly signed a legal document allowing his mother to gain custody of his three children after his disturbing livestream where he was seen covered in blood and appeared to be harming himself resulted in his hospitalization.
Teresita Lavandeira, the mother of Hilton — whose given name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr. — filed for temporary custody of Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, on Aug. 7 in Miami, where the pioneering celeb blogger grew up and relocated to earlier this year from Las Vegas with his son and two daughters, all of whom were born via surrogacy. As of Wednesday, Hilton remains hospitalized in Miami under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows for the involuntary hospitalization of those with severe mental health issues.

“I realize that by signing this document, I am consenting to the Petitioner having temporary legal custody of the minor children and that such temporary custody is in the best interest of the children,” read the documents signed by Hilton. “I realize that the custody of my children by the petitioner is temporary and that I may, at any time, petition the court to return legal custody to me… I understand and acknowledge that I may have to comply with a reasonable transition plan prior to the court returning legal custody to me.”
Hilton was brought to a local hospital after Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to multiple reports on the evening of Aug. 4 that Hilton was livestreaming himself on TikTok from his home making suicidal threats and using an object to cut himself repeatedly. The stream of the bloody incident was reportedly live for 30 minutes before being removed. Hilton’s TikTok account was subsequently suspended, and his family released a statement shortly after, confirming his hospitalization.
“We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being,” it read, asking for privacy as the blogger recovers. On Saturday, a subsequent statement from the family said he remains in “serious but stable” condition.
“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process,” it reads, again asking that Hilton and his family be granted ongoing privacy.
As part of her petition to the court, Lavandeira is requesting that the custody records be sealed to ensure extreme privacy in a legal capacity.
Moments before the livestream incident, Hilton’s three children, niece, and sister were inside the home, the family said in an update over the weekend. “When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled,” it reads, in an attempt to shield them from anything traumatizing.
“The children in this case should not be subjected to any further trauma related to the incidents that are the basis of the petition,” Lavandeira wrote in the filing, which was submitted the day after her son was hospitalized.
If granted temporary custody, Lavandeira will have the authority to make all necessary medical and dental care decisions for the children, obtain copies of their records — including their birth certificates —and enroll them in school, among several other parenting duties.
Page Six, which broke the custody news on Wednesday, reports that Hilton has been struggling since his family made the move to Miami. The outlet reports that the blogger was hospitalized in March after taking flu medicine on an empty stomach which later led him to developing an ulcer, perforation, and sepsis. The three-week hospital stay landed him with mounting hospital bills.
